Labyrinth

sContent281.jpgThe Labyrinth is an age-old sacred circle, with a single path to its center. From that center - which typifies our centeredness in the Divine - one retreaces their steps to the outer gateway and reentry into life.

The Labyrinth is used as a tool for prayer and meditation. Many people find it helpful to focus on one truth, idea, or scriptural passage. In the reflective silence often there is the ability to recognize and express components of one's life that are not otherwise easily expressible.

The Labyrinth has long been connected with the Christian tradition. Perhaps the most celebrated Labyrinth is embedded in the floor of the European Charters Cathedral.

The reflective pilgrim who enters the winding pathway of the Labyrinth subtly discovers a rhythm and flow that is a picture of the spiritual journey. At times the pathway takes one close to the center, only to be led once again to the periphery of the circle. However, if one persists, the pathway, one step at a time, ultimately leads to the center.  The Labyrinth thus functions as a experinced metaphor for our spiritual journey.  Where we can recognize that God is with me through it all - even those unexpected turns which seemed to lead me away from His Divine Presence and care, are in fact an intricate part of my ever deepening journey.

For each individual, the journey through the Labyrinth is unique. The discipline of this sacred experience is to listen for the voice of God, to listen to my inner self, and to connect with my life journey.  And in this, to gain new and deeper insights into God’s way with with me.

Our hope is that the Labyrinth will become a tool for soul ministry, spiritual discovery, meditative prayer, and an opportunity for others to enhance their own spiritual formation.
