Labyrinth
The Labyrinth is an age-old sacred circle, leading one on a single path to its center. From that center - which typifies our centeredness in the Divine - one returns on a gentle pathway leading to the outer gateway and reentry into life.
Walking the pathway lends itself to prayer and meditation. Many people find reflection on a simple, spiritual truth or praying the Psalms as directive. In the reflective silence one often finds expression for those experiences too painful or too ecstatic for articulation with mere words.
The Labyrinth has long been connected with the Christian tradition. Perhaps the most celebrated Labyrinth is embedded in the floor of the European Charters Cathedral.
The reflective pilgrim who enters the winding pathway of the Labyrinth subtly discovers a rhythm and flow that is a picture of the spiritual journey. At times the pathway takes one close to the center, only to be led once again to the periphery of the circle - life in the Spirit, also with its crises and mysteries, often seems to isolate one, or to be heading in the wrong direction. However, if one persists and serenely follows the pathway one step at a time, it ultimately leads one to being centered in the Divine. Behold, He was with me through it all - even those unexpected turns which at the time seemed to lead me away from His Divine Presence and care, were in fact ordained to be an intricate part of my ever deepening journey.
For each individual, the journey through the Labyrinth is unique - as unique as my personal makeup, and as unique as my journey with God tends to be. The discipline of this sacred experience is to listen for the voice of God, to my inner self, and to connect with my life journey - to gain new and deeper insight into God’s way with humankind - with me.
As I - as you - walk the labyrinth one meditative step at a time, something happens within - the mystery of God’s everywhereness in our lives - past, present and future - becomes trustworthy. I am able to continue my journey more centered, more trusting, more at peace with God’s will and way with me.
King’s Fold, by creating a Labyrinth, offers one more opportunity for people from our world of brokenness and shattered dreams, a place to come aside to discover, perhaps for the first time, Divine Presence - or to renew their commitment to a deeper trust in His direction for their lives.
The Labyrinth - another sacred space at King’s Fold - will become for some, a tool for soul ministry, spiritual discovery, meditative prayer, and an opportunity to enhance their own spiritual formation - And a Reason to Return to King’s Fold.
