Fasting Cabins

Bring your sleeping bag, a flashlight and some good reading material - it's a 20 minute hike across the river and up the hill where you will find, nestled next to a little stream, the Eagle’s Nest. No power or running water will greet you. However, you will find a cozy bed, a writing desk and an excellent wood stove. Surrounded by trees, it is super quiet here. Fasting and alone, one tends to hear God speak through His creation and in the silence. Oh yes, the biffy is just down the trail - paper supplied!

Please note that the Eagle's Nest fasting cabin was completely destroyed by fire in December, 2009.  We hope to rebuild in 2010 and will keep you posted via our website.

The Hermitage - Fasting Cabin

Nestled in the woods, a 10 minute walk from the lodge, overlooking a meadow and the Ghost River, you will discover the Hermitage - a great place for a personal, fasting and silent retreat. You must bring your own sleeping bag and there is no running water or electricity. However, a propane heater keeps you warm. A cozy chair, a comfortable bed and a writing desk is all you need for a personal retreat. The outside biffy, with a view, will meet your personal needs.

It always seems God is waiting for your company when you visit this little cabin in the woods.

The Hideaway - a Treehouse

The Hideaway features electric heat and light, a comfortable swing - perfect for those times of reflection, and a mountain view. Following is the invitation you will find at the doorway of our Hideaway.

"The roots of our spirituality are hidden away in the experiences of our childhood. That often includes the times we went on a childlike fantasy trip where we experienced God, maybe in a fort or a tree house - there He spoke to us in childlike simplicity and we knew it was Him.

Jesus said that unless we become as a child in our faith, we miss the mark spiritually. Each of us has a little bit of childlike faith left in us. It may well be during a time of coming away to our chosen Hideaway with our inner child that we will hear from God in a new and dynamic manner.

The Hideaway offers us a place to come aside and enter once again into that uncluttered space of a child, where God speaks to us in the silence. We are able to hear him speak in words we can understand and accept.

Come away, My Beloved, climb the stairs to your own Hideaway with the Almighty - be still - don’t speak a lot, but listen. In the prayer of silence God will be present to respond to you and enrich your childlike heart of faith. He will be here in this little cottage perhaps to share a cup of tea, or to break bread with you. He will open your spiritual eyes and you will behold him with new insight and love.

Come then - Hideaway with the God of Heaven - He is in this place."
