King's Fold News Release - A Marathon for Hospitality

On November 27th Virgil, our Director, turns 65.  Can you believe that?  Also he and Irene are celebrating 40 years in ministry - what a milestone!  Virgil has chosen to celebrate these exciting and meaningful events by running a marathon for King’s Fold on November 27, 2005.  That’s a run of 44.4 kms or 26.2 miles.

A MARATHON FOR HOSPITALITY

… has been created to celebrate these events and to assist King’s Fold in its future projects.  The run happens in Seattle and a huge celebration party will happen in Calgary on the evening of the 27th, and you’re invited.

You might be asking how this “Marathon for Hospitality” affects you.  King’s Fold is all about hospitality – spiritual and life giving hospitality.  The board, staff, friends and supporters of King’s Fold are being challenged to use this marathon as a celebration of our ministry of hospitality.  The goal is to raise $150,000 – that’s $3,400 per kilometer!

A word from Bob Ball, King’s Fold’s founder…

I didn’t know that Virgil was a marathoner.  What a bold and courageous venture!   I’ve told him that I’ll be there when he crosses the finish line, and I’m expecting to present him with a cheque for $150,000 or more to help ease his pain!  Virgil and I and other friends are committed to reaching this lofty goal as a celebration of King’s Fold’s unique ministry over the years.

The goal is to pay off and burn the $100,000 mortgage on the chapel and kick start the kitchen renovation project.  The kitchen desperately needs upgrading and expansion to accommodate growing numbers of guests and to meet health requirements.  It will include a walk-in cooler and freezer, a commercial dishwasher, food storage and a baking area.  The chapel and the kitchen are the centres where hospitality happens.  We want to enhance the kitchen and pay off the chapel and I’m asking for your help.

Here’s some great news.  I’m told that two anonymous gifts have already been given towards this “Marathon for Hospitality.”  One gift was for $50,000, the other for $20,000, so we are nearly half way to the finish line already.  Now that’s exciting!  Virgil says, “We’re coming down the back stretch and heading for the goal!”

A word from Virgil…

The $70,000 which has been given is in the form of matching funds.  For every dollar you give, another dollar will be released.  What a way to maximize your giving to King’s Fold.  Will you give some prayerful thought to what you could do to support this “Marathon for Hospitality”?  Don’t forget - it’s all about enhancing and celebrating the hospitality King’s Fold is known for.

We at King’s Fold want to be debt free.  That will happen when we burn the $100,000 chapel mortgage.  The board has determined that the much needed kitchen renovation and expansion will be done on a “pay as you go” plan.  No part of your gift will go towards interest and every dollar you give will be matched.  It couldn’t be better than that!

You can become part of this exciting venture today by sending in your gift or pledge to the “Marathon for Hospitality.”    A response card is attached. Tax receipts will be issued for all donations.

A final word from Virgil and Bob…

Virgil as present director, and Bob as the founder of King’s Fold, want to say, “We are excited about working together on this Hospitality Marathon.  You’ll be hearing from us again over the next several months to update you on progress and to encourage you to be a participant.”

PS…  Will you pray for Virgil for safety, strength and spiritual renewal as he trains by running hundreds of miles over the next 3 ½ months?   You could encourage him in his training by making your pledge or gift as soon as possible.  He believes we will reach and exceed our goal of $150,000.
